Lead Systems Engineer/ Technical Architect
Location: Hybrid – Madison, WI or Milwaukee, WI
Summary
This person will shape and lead the organization’s technology vision by designing scalable, secure, and modern IT architecture. This role drives major technical initiatives, partners with leadership to define long-term strategy, and serves as a hands-on expert who elevates systems, infrastructure, and team capabilities. The ideal candidate blends strong architectural leadership with practical experience across cloud, security, and enterprise systems.
Responsibilities

Design and maintain the organization’s overall technical architecture and roadmap.

Lead large-scale technology initiatives and ensure cross-team alignment.

Evaluate and implement enterprise applications, platforms, and infrastructure solutions.

Perform hands-on system administration and contribute to security monitoring and incident response.

Develop disaster recovery and business continuity plans to ensure resilience.

Mentor and support technical team members, promoting best practices and knowledge sharing.

Communicate architectural decisions and future-state strategies to leadership.

Research emerging technologies and guide adoption of innovative solutions.
Qualifications / Must Haves

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field.

8+ years of experience in IT engineering, administration, or architecture.

Deep, hands-on Azure experience

Deep, hands-on Microsoft 365 administration (not oversight → actual doing)

Experience migrating from on-prem to cloud-first environments

SASE (Secure Access Service Edge) – understanding & practical experience

Solid networking fundamentals (routing, connectivity, hybrid networks)

Experience designing and delivering large-scale, complex technical solutions.

Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to lead high-impact troubleshooting.

Proven ability to collaborate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Hands-on experience with system administration and security controls.
