Senior Accountant (AR and Billing Specialist)
Location: New York City (Hybrid – 1-3 days/week in office)
About the Role
Our client is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Accountant (AR and Billing Specialist) to lead their accounts receivable (AR) and billing operations. This individual will play a key role in managing the end-to-end billing cycle, driving timely collections, and maintaining accurate AR reporting. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams, supervise offshore billing staff, and contribute to month-end and year-end closings, providing valuable insights into cash flow and revenue performance.
Key Responsibilities
Accounts Receivable Management

Oversee and manage the AR process, including analyzing aging reports and coordinating collection efforts

Prepare AR aging reports and provide updates to senior leadership on outstanding balances and cash flow

Recommend and implement strategies to optimize collections and reduce Days Sales Outstanding (DSO)

Identify and execute process improvements to enhance billing and AR accuracy and efficiency

Collaborate across departments to streamline billing workflows and automation

Manage an offshore billing team of approximately two staff members

Implement best practices for credit and collections
Revenue Recognition

Apply revenue recognition policies in accordance with ASC 606

Ensure compliance with accounting standards for revenue-related transactions
Month-End and Year-End Closing

Ensure timely and accurate AR and billing entries during closing processes

Prepare monthly revenue journal entries in line with ASC 606

Reconcile AR and revenue accounts and Stripe payouts, resolving discrepancies promptly

Support audit processes by providing accurate documentation and reports
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

CPA or similar certification is a plus

Minimum 5 years of experience in AR, billing, or related accounting roles

Proficient in accounting and billing systems such as Maxio, Xero, and Salesforce (implementation experience preferred)

Demonstrated experience with financial reporting and closing processes
Skills & Competencies

Deep knowledge of AR processes and revenue recognition standards

Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, etc.)
