Product Owner, Operational Products and Automation

Job description

Product Owner – Operational Platforms and Automation
Team: Infrastructure Operations Product Management
Reporting to: Senior Director, Product Management
Location: Remote (U.S. based)

Summary
This organization operates a large, globally distributed infrastructure footprint that supports mission-critical digital services.  As a 24×7 operations organization, it’s responsible for site availability, event response, capacity readiness, and continuous improvement across a diverse portfolio of facilities.

At the core of this effort is an internal operational data and tooling platform that aggregates real-time and historical telemetry, including power, environmental, capacity, and event data. This platform enables both customer-facing capabilities and internal operational decision-making, serving as a system of record for how facilities are monitored, managed, and onboarded.

This Product Owner role is responsible for the operational tooling, automation, and data governance capabilities that support global infrastructure operations. The focus is on eliminating manual effort, improving operational consistency, and enabling scalable, data-driven operations.

Job Description
Seeking a Product Owner, Operational Platforms and Automation to own the backlog and delivery of internal operational tools and automations. This is a high-impact role responsible for designing and delivering solutions that help operations, commissioning, and site teams work with greater speed, reliability, and confidence.

The Product Owner will partner closely with operations leadership, central operations teams, and regional stakeholders to identify high-value workflows for automation and improved tooling. This role also owns data quality, governance, and onboarding readiness as formal product disciplines.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Product Strategy and Execution

  • Own the roadmap for operational tools, workflows, and automations that reduce manual effort and operational risk.
  • Drive product decisions for interaction patterns, automation capabilities, and system integrations supporting operations.
  • Identify opportunities to replace fragmented tools and manual processes with scalable platform solutions.
  • Define and track KPIs tied to adoption, efficiency gains, cost savings, and stakeholder satisfaction.

Data Quality and Platform Integrity

  • Own data quality as an ongoing product responsibility, including monitoring, scoring frameworks, and visibility for stakeholders.
  • Lead infrastructure readiness standards used to gate onboarding of new sites or assets into the platform.
  • Drive prioritization and sequencing of onboarding initiatives across operational demand.

Operations Partnership

  • Serve as the primary product partner to operations teams, translating operational needs into clear backlog priorities.
  • Validate concepts with stakeholders through direct engagement and workflow observation.
  • Represent operational users in product decision-making and trade-off discussions.
  • Identify and surface operational risks early, including duplicate tooling or fragmented processes.

Backlog and Delivery Management

  • Own and manage the product backlog, expressing work in terms of operational outcomes and value.
  • Write and refine user stories with clear acceptance criteria; maintain a ready backlog across multiple sprints.
  • Partner with Product Management to define release scope aligned to operational risk and dependency considerations.
  • Participate actively in sprint ceremonies and make real-time scope decisions as needed.
  • Accept completed work against acceptance criteria, including operational validation where appropriate.

Product Craft and Continuous Improvement

  • Tie delivery outcomes to operational performance metrics and efficiency goals.
  • Develop deep understanding of both the technical architecture and the operational processes being supported.
  • Continuously identify friction points, manual workarounds, and automation opportunities not yet on the roadmap.

Required Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience as a Product Owner or backlog owner in an Agile delivery environment (Scrum, SAFe, or similar).
  • Experience delivering internal or operational products, including workflow design, automation, and data-driven tooling.
  • Strong technical aptitude with a high attention to detail, especially in operationally sensitive environments.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage both technical teams and business stakeholders.
  • Proven track record of managing competing priorities and making informed trade-off decisions.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting 24×7 operational user communities.
  • Familiarity with event, alarm, or incident management workflows.
  • Exposure to physical infrastructure, facilities, or critical systems environments.
  • Experience integrating with IT service management or asset management platforms.
