  • Sr. LMS Business Project Manager

Senior LMS Business Project Manager (Contract – Potential FTE)

Location: Remote (Must be able to daily work EST business hours)
Duration: 1-year contract with strong potential for FTE conversion

    Overview

Our financial services client is seeking a Senior LMS Business Project Manager to lead a highly visible, enterprise Learning Management System (LMS) consolidation initiative. This role is for a project manager with direct, hands-on experience implementing or migrating an external-facing LMS. Candidates without this experience will not be considered.

In this role, you will serve as the Business Project Manager and strategic thought partner to Learning & Development (L&D) sponsors, guiding them through a complex LMS consolidation while partnering closely with Technology PMs and external vendors. This is not a passive coordination role — the successful PM will proactively drive decisions, manage risks, and hold teams accountable across a highly matrixed organization.

    Project Context

The organization is consolidating two external-facing LMS platforms (Cornerstone and Pinpoint) into a single, unified LMS for financial advisors. A required Cornerstone upgrade to SumTotal creates a unique opportunity to migrate both systems simultaneously, avoiding a phased or fragmented approach.

While project sponsors are L&D subject matter experts, they require a seasoned PM who can lead the implementation, structure the work, and guide decision-making related to workflows, integrations, data migration, compliance-driven training completion, and system decommissioning.

    Key Responsibilities

As the Senior LMS Business Project Manager, you will:

    • Act as a proactive thought partner to project sponsors, providing guidance on approach, sequencing, and risk mitigation

    • Own the business-side delivery of the LMS initiative, including planning, execution, monitoring, and reporting

    • Develop and maintain core project artifacts, including:

      • Project Charter

      • RACI / Resource Plans

      • High-level and detailed milestone plans

    • Drive day-to-day execution of internal business workstreams, managing scope, schedule, cost, and resources

    • Partner with Technology PMs, delivery teams, and external vendors to manage an integrated end-to-end plan

    • Facilitate collaboration across internal teams and external suppliers in a complex, matrixed environment

    • Identify risks early, escalate appropriately, and drive issues to resolution

    • Proactively communicate changes to scope, timeline, cost, or impact and manage approved change processes

    • Oversee vendor relationships and ensure contractual obligations are met

    • Support planning and execution of:

      • External advisor training workflows (including compliance requirements)

      • Internal content publication workflows across multiple home office teams

      • LMS platform installation, integrations, user/data migration

      • Decommissioning of legacy LMS platforms

    Required Qualifications (Non-Negotiable)

    • Direct experience leading an external-facing LMS implementation, migration, or consolidation

    • 8+ years of overall project management experience

    • Proven ability to manage highly complex, long-term initiatives impacting external users

    • Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence without authority

    • Experience operating as a proactive PM who drives accountability and outcomes

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience within wealth management, insurance, or financial services environments

    • Strong Waterfall experience for business planning and execution

    • Agile experience (technical teams operate in Agile delivery models)

    • 10+ years of project management experience, including 5+ years within a PMO

    • Proficiency with project management tools such as MS Project, MS Planner, and Jira

    • PMP certification is a plus but not required — experience is valued over credentials

    Why This Role?

    • High-impact, enterprise LMS initiative with external visibility

    • Opportunity to shape and lead a major platform consolidation

    • Strong potential for full-time conversion at the end of the contract
