Network Engineer (Security)

Job description

Immediate need for a Senior Network Security Engineer to work with a healthcare IT firm delivering secure, reliable IT solutions that empower providers to focus on what matters most — exceptional patient care!

Job Title: Senior Network Engineer – Security Focus

What You’ll Do

As a Senior Network Security Engineer, you’ll be a technical leader for client network environments — architecting secure solutions, troubleshooting complex issues, and partnering with IT Directors and engineers to maintain uptime and compliance.

Responsibilities:

  • Design & Support Networks: Build and support LAN/WAN and wireless networks using platforms like Ubiquiti, Meraki, Cambium, Aruba, Cisco, and Ruckus.
  • Firewall Management: Configure and maintain next-gen firewalls (SonicWall, Fortinet, Palo Alto, Meraki); implement least-privilege rulesets, IDS/IPS, SSL/TLS decryption, and SD-WAN policies.
  • Network Security & Segmentation: Design VLAN segmentation, VRF/multi-tenant environments, and L2/L3 micro-segmentation; implement 802.1X, DHCP snooping, and device profiling.
  • Wi-Fi & Access Control: Deploy secure WLANs using xPSK or RADIUS authentication (WPA2/WPA3-Enterprise, EAP-TLS) and manage certificate-based access.
  • Zero Trust & Edge Hardening: Contribute to ZTNA initiatives, minimizing implicit trust and reducing VPN reliance.
  • Threat Detection & Monitoring: Use NetFlow, Auvik, and firewall analytics to identify anomalies, implement threat intel blocklists, and coordinate response actions.
  • Compliance & Documentation: Maintain configuration baselines, backups, and security standards; forward syslog data to SIEM for analysis and auditing.
  • Collaboration & Escalation: Act as Tier 3 escalation for network and security issues; mentor junior engineers and contribute to knowledge sharing.

What You’ll Bring:

  • 7+ years of hands-on experience designing, implementing, and supporting network infrastructure and security environments.
  • Strong expertise in routing, switching, firewalls, and wireless technologies — ideally within an MSP or healthcare IT setting.
  • In-depth understanding of TCP/IP, VLANs, RSTP, NAT/PAT, QoS, PoE, DNS, WAN, ISP, and related protocols.
  • Proven ability to secure edge environments with 802.1X, ACLs, IDS/IPS, DNS filtering, and threat response workflows.
  • Experience with network monitoring and automation tools (Auvik or similar).
  • Excellent troubleshooting, documentation, and client-facing communication skills.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and passionate about building resilient, secure networks.
  • Willingness to work on-site in Johns Creek / Alpharetta with limited (approx. 10%) client travel.

Why You’ll Love Working Here:

  • Work on complex, high-availability networks that support healthcare systems nationwide.
  • Collaborate with a team of skilled engineers and architects who value technical excellence.
  • Influence infrastructure standards and security best practices across multiple environments.
  • Competitive salary, full benefits (medical, dental, vision, life, disability, 401(k) match), and robust PTO..

Work Location: 100% in-office in John’s Creek/Alpharetta area
